These baskets are made by tribal people I have met in places far away from tourism and market places. They have been weaving them for their household use for generations. Helen Douglas –Dufresne flew me last July in her 1954 Cessna to a remote dirt airship 45 minutes north of her base camp in the Milgis. She had made contact with the community thanks to the Milgis trust radio network to ask them to meet us at the airstrip. We landed on the red African soil and there they were, amazing baskets, each one of them a piece of a nomadic culture that amazingly enough still co- exists with the bustling world of the twenty first century.
